My Summer Reading!

This summer is going to be great! I will be going into 7th grade and I will be going to many new places. However one thing I have plenty of time for is READING! I have so many new and great books that I want to read so bad. Some of these books I have never even heard of but I know the authors and I want to try them. In this post you will see down below all of the books I am planning to read and what I want to read. Hopefully this will spark new interests for different people and give them many new books to read.

TOP BOOKS!

1. For Everyone by Jason Reynolds

This book seems very interesting because I have read a lot of his other books and they were very good so I want to try this book because it says that this book is for people that are striving to do something better. Overall I love this author because of how much passion he puts into his writing

2. The Brooklyn Nine by Alan Gratz

The reason this is my second option is similar to the first because of how I have read Alan Gratz WWII books and this particular book stuck out to me because of how it related to baseball. The reason baseball stuck out to me is because this is my passion and Alan Gratz books are great so these together are perfect for me.

3. Three Times Lucky by Sheila Turnage

This book stuck out to me because of the title, 3 times lucky seems like the main character might be struggling with something. I enjoy reading about other people’s struggles because it gives me awareness and a little more culture. I love this idea of sharing struggles because I believe this could stop bullying.

4. Caterpillar Summer, by Gillian McDunn

This book looks like a very intense book. The reason it looks intense because they say how their summer took a turn and it looks like an adventure. This book looks so intriguing for anyone that loves listening to others adventures so if this is not on your list make sure it is or will be for this summer.

5. Over the Moon, by Natalie LLoyd

This book seems super interesting because of how it sounds like a story were she is working for someone who is rich. I love these kind of stories because they always make me think of others that don’t have as much as me. I also want to hear how the main character overcame this.

The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise by Dan Geminhart

In The book, The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise, by Dan Gemeinhart, the main character Coyote and her family lives in a bus. They  often travel from place to place all around the country, just like a gypsy. But she did have an original house but she also lived in that house with her mom. She lost her mom a while ago but she has many memories with her mom and the park just outside her old house was one. She just heard it was getting demolished.

This park is so touching to her that when she hears it is going to get tore down she asks her dad to travel 3,600 miles back to Washington to save the park. It takes a lot to convince her dad. But finally he makes a decision and knows how much memories it holds. He said yes. Coyote was so happy and was ready to begin this long journey.

I would recommend this book to those who loved the book Wishtree, by Katherine Applegate. These relate to each other because of how both books described the main character trying to save something with so many memories.  The Wishtree held so many wishes from all the little kids. Also, the park in The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise held so many memories. I would rate The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise a 5 star book. I would say this because of how the author took so much time to add small details that made the book so much better.

The Unteachables By Gordan Kormon

In the book, The Unteachables, by Gordon Korman, a group of delinquents don’t really get along with school. The main problem that they have is one of their teachers is very lazy and hates his job. The school pep rally is coming up and they start to notice how Mr. Kermit acts somewhat different. They are cautious about helping him but they don’t know if he is acting normal or not. They think he is extremely mad so they end up wanting to help. They realize he hates the noise and the cheering that goes on in pep rallies. Parker see’s that there is a shipment of kazoos in the front of the school. When he enters one of his classes his teacher is not there so he tells his friends about the situation. They want to do something about this because they know how much Mr. Kermit hates noise. These kids sneak out and are on a mission to steal all the kazoos, they end up succeeding but little do they know what is ahead of them. When they get to the pep rally, people are very mad and Mr. Kermit knows exactly who it was. Read this book to find out what happens to them will it end up good or bad? This book was a perfect connection to me because I always want to help people with their fears.

The Prophet Calls by Melanie Sumrow

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have your passion dragged away from you? Well this is what Gentry has to go through in the book, The Prophet Calls, by Melanie Sumrow. In this book, Gentry loves to play the violin and when she gets a new one she really wants to play at a festival with her brother. Gentry is living under God’s chosen and she feels so lucky. She really wants to perform in this concert so her and her brother are thinking about sneaking out for the opportunity. The prophets decisions have not been great to gentry and she doesn’t like what her family is going through. Gentry is confused on what she wants to do with her one and only life. Will she stick with this plan? Read The Prophet Calls by Melanie Sumrow to find out what happens next.

Lifeboat 12 by Susan Hood

In the book, Lifeboat 12, By Susan Hood, Ken the main character goes through a lot and has to even leave his house at one point. This happens because his city is getting bombed and his parents want him to be as safe as possible. Throughout the way Ken travels with many other kids on different ways of transportation. I know if this were me I would be really sad. I would be sad because one I am leaving all my family behind and two I would have no choice on if I wanted to leave or not. In the book throughout the first 10 pages Ken shows his emotions like when he says “Dad, Mum and I scrambled to the radio as we heard about all the bombs being dropped on London. I heard that our area was one of the worst spots to be in. I woke up suddenly as I heard my Dad talking to my Mum. I couldn’t depict what they were saying but I heard the word “leaving”. Later that day I had a conversation with my parents then I knew what they meant I was leaving.” For me this would be really scary because I would be leaving my parents behind and I would have to live in a new home by myself.

Where The Watermelons Grow by Cindy Baldwin

How would someone around my age get through having a parent that struggles to do everyday things. This is what I was thinking while reading the book, Where The Watermelon Grows, by Cindy Baldwin because that is a big part in every kids life. In the book, the main character, Della. She has a hard time showing this character because of the fact that her mom is the centerpiece of the family with a disability. This disability is one that takes over all of her thoughts and she does random stuff sometimes. This impacts Della because she feels that she wants to know what her mom is thinking but she can’t. In the book, Della lives on a watermelon farm and she believes that her dad has the best watermelon in North Carolina. Where she lives impacts her because her life is so much different than any other girl. Her sibling and her dad have similar thoughts because they to want to know more on her mom’s thoughts and what she is thinking. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have a dad that has the same questions as you and that is not really a leader because that is what Della goes through. To find more out on Della’s thoughts read Where The Watermelon Grows by Cindy Baldwin.

Best Books of 2018

The top five books I have read in 2018 are Baseball Genius by Tim Green and Derek Jeter, Prisoner B-3087 by Alan Gratz, Unstoppable by Tim Green, Wish Tree by K. A  Applegate, and last but not least Mockingbird by Kathryn Erskine. All of these books touched me in some sort of way but the book that had the most impact on me was Prisoner B-3087 by Alan Gratz this book made me a better human in a lot of ways because what I saw Yanek do as a young boy like me do was insane. He not only went to 10 concentration camps  but he did this all on his own. One of the biggest things that impacted me the most is how when he was alone he still had enough power and motivation to keep going throughout the journey and this really touched me because of the way he really just kept on going through the journey by himself and kept learning things along the way.

Blended by Sharon M. Draper

In the book, Blended, by Sharon M. Draper, the main character Izzy has a very tough time with her family and her life revolves around one question which is “am I black or white?”. This was a question that made me think how long does she think about this. On Izzy’s journey she goes through a lot and perseveres a lot just to find the answer. But then something happens in her family and Izzy’s heart breaks. She has a very hard time for a while and struggles to get over this. Her mom and her dad are always there for her and want her to succeed but sometimes they make everything for Izzy.

Izzy is a character who goes through different problems with her family and the way that they impact her. She has to go through so much throughout the book because of parent’s divorce and she has to find ways to overcome this when tough times occur. Darren is new older step brother that she loves with all her heart because of everything he does for her. Overall, Izzy is a character who showed she can deal with anything because of the fact that she goes through so much in this book.

Overall I would rate this book a 5 out of 5 star just because of how it shows so much perseverance, how it really goes in depth on Izzy’s life and everything she goes through. Lastly I would rate this a five just because of how great of a book it is and how it inspired me as the reader. Lastly this is not a girl’s book even though the cover is all pink. I am a boy and I decided to pick it up. I encourage everyone to read this book no matter the gender. This book to me was a book that showed so much perseverance and love that I could not put it down.

Moo by Sharon Creech

Have you ever had to move and you thought the new place would be good but then you just don’t like it and have to adjust to this new place. Well that is just what Reena had to go through in the book, Moo, by Sharon Creech. She was just sitting there one day when all the sudden her parents say they were moving and right when they said that Reena immediately said “Maine” Little did she know that is were she would end up. When she got to Maine she did not expect that she would have to help an old lady do her everyday life she also didn’t know she would have to take care of this old lady’s cow. Overall Reena regretted her decision of wanting to move to Maine because of all the tasks that came with it.

Ghost by Jason Reynolds

In the book Ghost, by Jason Reynolds, The main character, Castle, also known as Ghost goes through a lot throughout his life. These problems can get him in trouble a lot which doesn’t help during school. When Ghost finds out about a track team his life changes, he feels like he wants to join. He later figures out that this life event will change him when he meets his coach who is a very nice man. Another problem Ghost faces is the things his dad did to him and what the outcomes of that were.

Ghost’s biggest problems were very interesting to learn about because his life is much different than mine. One of the problems he faced was he got in trouble a lot which made the track coach question him. Another problem he faces is how and what his dad did to him and his mom because it changed everything in his everyday life. Lastly Castle had to overcome these challenges with basically no help until he does track and the coach is very helpful so his coach was a big part of his life.

I would recommend this book for a student in fifth grade or up because of some words are confusing and hard to understand for younger ages. This book would be a good read for anyone who likes books that get tense at times. I would rate this book a 5 out of 5 because of the culture that is in here and it lets the reader gain more knowledge about different lifestyles of different lives and to show how everyone is different.
